Q: How long will I need treatment for?
A: The discounted asthma programs offer 3 months of treatment catered to each patient's individual presentation. The program consists of approximately eight visits over the three month period. If more time is needed to clear asthma completely, one visit approximately every 3 weeks should be sufficient. These subsequent visits will be billed on a per visit basis.
Q: How long will it take to see results?
A: Your practitioner will be looking for subtle shifts in your overall condition within the first few weeks of treatment. Long term cases of asthma that have been treated for years with pharmaceuticals generally take longer to treat, whereas paediatric cases respond more quickly.
Q: What kind of results can I expect?
A: Results vary according to individual cases, however, most clients are able to reduce the dosage of their medication within a couple of months, sometimes weaning off bronchodilators and corticosteroids altogether.
Q: Will my asthma be gone forever, or will it come back some time in the future?
A: Studies have shown that treatment with Chinese herbal medicines have the effect of rebalancing the body's immune function such that it overreacts with less force to asthma triggers. The body's constitution, according to TCM, creates a tendency for it to gravitate towards the same particular imbalances. Once balance is achieved, it is more difficult to be knocked back into imbalance. When early signs of labored breathing occur, it is recommended to return to your TCM doctor for a quick tuneup. Over time, these tuneups are required less and less.
Q: How do you treat asthma?
A: The asthma clinic is based on chinese herbal medicine. Acupuncture or other modalities will be employed if necessary. Dietary and lifestsyle modifications are usually beneficial, but the daily consumption of chinese herbs is often sufficient to bring the system back into balance.
Q: I’m concerned about herb/drug interactions. Is it safe to take Chinese Herbs while I’m on medication?
A: Yes. Doctors of Chinese Medicine are trained to avoid potentially harmful herb/drug interactions. Most patients are able to wean off long-term medications and drastically reduce if not eliminate the need for reliever medication. Working with patients to document lung capacity ensures they are armed with the information necessary to communicate with their MD, so that they are able to safely reduce medication.
